The Impact Of Different Mix Designs On The Permeability Of Permeable Paving Bricks.

Permeable bricks are a new type of environmentally friendly building material developed to maintain urban ecological balance.  They possess characteristics such as sound absorption and noise reduction, mitigating the urban heat island effect, purifying rainwater, and beautifying the environment. They are mainly used for paving urban squares and roads.  Here, we analyze the impact of different mix designs on the permeability of permeable bricks:  In the production of permeable bricks using an environmentally friendly permeable brick production line, different mix designs result in different permeability and strength of the bricks. The main factor affecting the permeability of permeable bricks is the aggregate gradation. Under the condition of a fixed number of aggregate grades, a higher permeability can be obtained when the proportion of each grade is the same. Permeable bricks made with fewer aggregate grades perform significantly better than those with more aggregate grades. This is because in continuous gradation, each aggregate grade fills the gaps between others. The pores in aggregates with more grades are smaller than those with fewer grades.  Furthermore, the specific surface area of aggregates with more grades is larger than that of aggregates with fewer grades, which increases the cement consumption. This results in fewer interconnected pores in the surface test specimens of permeable bricks with more aggregate grades in continuous gradation, leading to poorer permeability.
